week 16 - the colors of fall

I got up at six thirty this morning (and it's Sunday!) because I wanted to take some pictures of the morning fog. Only there was no fog. Oh well. The colors of fall look just as nice :)
I decided that only trees would be too boring so I placed my bike in the picture and because there weren't any other people (of course! It was seven in the morning in the the middle of nowhere!) I shot another self portrait.

And yesterday we went feeding some ducks and suddenly a goose appeard and decided no one would notice that she wasn't a duck and she just swam in the middle of them, wich looked kinda funny ;)

This is from yesterday as well.
I shot it while driving in the car because I didn't get a chance to stop somewhere... very blurred and out of focus but maybe it works in this case.

week 12 - almost touching the sky

I really like this one :)

So...we finally moved to Bavaria. Outside of Bamberg it actually looks pretty nice, look at that:

The weather wasn't perfect for landscape photography and I shot against the sun...how clever...so I just tried to use some nice compositions (stones as a foreground, rule of thirds)

On our way we found this little snake...Does anybody know what kind of snake this is? I guess it was a baby, maybe 20 cm(about 8 inches) long. Somebody said it was a Coronella austriaca but I'm not quite sure about that. Any other ideas?

on our way up:

week 10 - The Ugly Duckling

I just couldn't decide between these two, so here are both variants:

Also, another fave of mine.

Do you know the story of The Ugly Duckling? Well, look what it became...

week 8 - Altfels: lizards and Co.

Jenni and I went hiking in...I don't even know exactly where, somewhere on the border to Rhineland-Palatinate. Our destination was a rock called "Altfels", a really pretty place! I didn't even know we had such beautiful places in our area.
We carved our names in the stone...

It actually doesn't look that big. Copy and paste: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/545/img4609q.jpg/
...and I also managed to photograph a lizard. At first it didn't wanna come out of his crevice and then he was so fast that it was difficult to photograph him. But I realized: That's something I like: taking pics of wild animals. I don't care if I have to wait for an hour until the animal stops hiding. It's fascinating to show how they life, just how they are, just moments of life. Nothing looks contrived or posed, I'm just showing things like they are.

week 7 - friendship: a horse and a girl

Sometimes I think I should stop photographing. I'm trying really hard and it seems like it's not enough. Sometimes I feel really stupid, because I don't recognize some mistakes I made until I see the pics on my laptop. Naturally I don't make the same mistake again, instead I do something else that messed up the pic.

Like this time. First the light was really hard, because it was about 5.30 in the afternoon and of course the sun was still way to high in the sky. Well, but the girl didn't wanna wait so I had to make the best of this situation.
When I'm photographing people I don't like sunny days, because it makes high contrasts and ugly shadows. But when I'm photographing pets I want the sun to be behind me so the fur gets this shine...also so I can use a shorter shutter speed for action shots.
Alright, dogs and horses don't seem to care if they look into the sun, but obviously people do. Their eyes get smaller and smaller and guess what: It'll look terrible on the picture.
So I didn't know where to place horse and rider so that there weren't any shadows on them and without the girl having to look in the sun. I totally messed it up.

The light is horrible (on most of the pics), the action shots are not sharp but blurry and out of focus, the photos are just snap shots. Of course nice snap shots, I would love to have them in a frame in my room, jut because they show my horse and me. But everybody can take snapshots, I want my pictures to be good photographs, I want them to be some kind of ART.

I know I'm an perfectionist, sorry about that.

week 4 - monkeys and other animals

Have you ever thought about what animals in the zoo could be thinking? When they get caught and then get penned in a tiny enclosure? How do animals feel when they get born in the zoo? Do they know that this is not their real home? Do they miss something, do they miss the wilderness, even if they've never seen it before? I'm just wondering...Monday I was in the zoo (Saarbruecken) and took some pictures of the monkeys...well, I tried...Seriously, they just couldn't keep still, were running and jumping around like crazy...it was really hard, every time my camera focused one of their faces they turned around and jumped away and I just got a nice sharp bottom, not really what I wanted.
